I always have heard stories about people driving cars on the frozen Ohio river. Great idea to do this

I was born just as the storm hit in ohio, What made the storm so bad was a few days before, it snowed about a foot, then got very warm about 50 deg. so the snow melted, and the new storm hit with tems below zero, and froze up all the storm drains. There was about 6 inches of pure ice under 6 feet of snow, but it hasnt happend again in 34 years. we are about due for another one.

My teacher Mr.Beckwith told us all this and wat happened in our town

I remember that storm i was a cop in Ohio and everything was stuck the highways looked like a tunnel after 3 days of 70 mph winds. We did not see above zero temps until march

to this day....when I hear snow is coming I rush to the stores for basics,,,,milk, bread, eggs, butter etc, etc.

January 12, 2011 there was a "snow storm" in New England. Not a blizzard, but yet weather person after person keeps saying it was the worst storm on record.....I don't think so!
What about the Blizzard of 1978? Da; did those people forget about the "Perfect Strom". All the roads in Connecticut where shut down. Nothing moved. 30+ inches of snow over most of the state, the US Army flew in equipment to dig people out, the National Guard went car to car checking for people alive or dead.

The photo at 4:30 is definately not from 1978. That style of street wiring was from late 1800's or early 1900's. Prolly from blizzard of 1888, which was much worse mind you.

I lived in Stow, Massachusetts in 1978, north of Worcester - I was 16 - my dad took 6 hours to get home from East Weymouth that night. We lost heat, and we huddled in sleeping bags around the fireplace. I remember going with my dad to the store, after the weather cleared - six foot banks of snow - and he had to go out for cigarettes!

I remember the Blizzard of 78, coming from Rhode Island, I remember the storm starting during rush hour, so many cars on Interstate 95 trying to get home and beat the storm, but the snow came down so fast and traffic was so jammed, that cars were stuck and abandoned on the highway, it was next to impossible to get snow removal equipment on the roads due to the fact that many cars were abandoned it was just a surreal scene out there.
