7.2-magnitude quake in Japan Kills 6, 11 Missing

A deadly earthquake in northern Japan has killed at least six people and injured more than 140. Eleven others were known to be missing as darkness fell on the quake zone, a mountainous region 400 kilometres north of Tokyo. Saturday's 7.2-magnitude quake triggered several major landslides, blocking roads and stranding about 100 bathers at a hot spring resort.
The quake was followed by more than 150 aftershocks. Many roads were damaged and electricity was cut to about 29,000 households. Earlier, military helicopters arrived in the quake zone, ferrying in supplies and flying the injured to hospitals. Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said the government was doing its best to find the missing and rescue the injured.
