A can of spray paint is attached to a spring oscillator. A roll of paper is run past the oscillating can. The result is a sine wave - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sine_wave - on the paper.

  • It's -cosine lawl

  • @sasha42196 bc college students to this point have probably studied trigonometric functions for about 4 years without seeing physical demonstrations that make sinusoidal behavior concrete.

  • the origin is (0,0) so the curve is a sine function!

  • @Greatleader123 @Reisyukaku you guys really need to get a coordinate system

  • The guy is cosining at around 00:14

  • @Greatleader123

It's neither, a sine or cosine wave will not eventually flatline

  • Can someone please remove these useless reactions? ....

... This is a great experiment to show students that the displacement of an oscillating object as a function of time yields a sine function. I did think about making it for my students but didn't (yet) get to it... Thanks.

  • @spicyxlilxman Yes dad.

    1. I'm sorry you're my father, no one ever wanted it to happen.

    2. This guy doesn't love his son because he thinks his son is gay.

    3. He is jealous because he is the only one in the family that is hung like a single celled organism.

    Now, leave me alone.

  • @TWOLF365 1. homophobic
