In this video press release, Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr. (D-Camden) holds a news conference to announce that he will not seek re-election and will be ending his tenure as Speaker and as a legislator at the end of his current term.
Roberts, 57, has served in the General Assembly for 22 years. Prior to that, he served on the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders and on the Bellmawr school board and borough council.
During his tenure in the Assembly, Roberts has authored laws to improve treatments for autism and developmental disabilities, improve affordable housing options, tackle skyrocketing property taxes, reform ethics, repeal the death penalty and combat the spread of HIV and AIDS in cities.
