ACT AED Day at Queen's Park: On February 24, 2010, the ACT Foundation, partners and students gave MPPs at Queen's Park a lesson in lifesaving. To date, more than one million Ontario youth have been trained in the ACT High School CPR Program. Now, in partnership with the Government of Ontario, ACT is bringing the AED enhancement to Ontario high schools. To date, more than 27,000 students have been trained in both CPR and AED.
Leona Dombrowsky, Ontario Minister of Education, Deb Matthews, Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, MPP Yasir Naqvi, Ottawa Centre, Robin Cardozo, CEO of The Ontario Trillium Foundation, Hugh O'Neill, President and CEO of sanofi-aventis, Wayne Quigley, President and General Manager of Bristol-Myers Squibb Canada, and Jim Williamson, Pfizer Canada, speak at Queen's Park about the importance of the ACT High School CPR & AED Program for Ontario youth.
Other featured guests include: Students from Senator O'Connor College School and Weston Collegiate Institute, MPP Toby Barrett, Haldimand-Norfolk, MPP Bob Bailey, Sarnia-Lambton, MPP Dave Levac, Brant, MPP Bas Balkissoon, Scarborough-Rouge River, Peter Fonseca, Ontario Minister of Labour, and MPP Amrit Mangat, Mississauga-Brampton South.
A Government of Ontario grant supports the training of teachers as CPR and AED instructors for their Grade 9 students, the purchase of AED training equipment and the placement of defibrillators in high schools. Other funding partners for this program include The Ontario Trillium Foundation, community partners and ACT's four health partners, AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb Canada, Pfizer Canada and sanofi-aventis, which provide sustaining funding for the ACT Foundation, and are committed to ACT's efforts to establish this program in Ontario.
