why are you guys freaking out over cropping a dog's ears? Next you're gonna say that we should stop neutering dogs because it "hurts them" even though it is safer for a family enviornment. And to stop cutting their tails even though it helps prevent infections in certain breeds like dobermans and jack russells. You guys that say it's torture are ignorant and you don't know what you're talkin about

@MrLefty1986 We live in Europe, where the cropping of ears is forbidden since 2003. Our Great Dane is born in 2002, so she has cropped ears. To be honest, we think they are more beautiful with cropped ears and I was told that the pups don't really suffer when its done... but I am not an expert on that. Anyway, we will always have at least one Dane, no matter their ears, they are just THE BEST. Soooo sweat, gently, funny, graceful, heavenly doooogs.... We loooove our Dane to bits :))

@mewildetoo That is kind of a misnomer dont you think... People enginnered the Great Dane, as they did all domesticated dogs.. god had nothing to do with it. If we as people left gods work alone all dogs would still be wolfs. And actually, there are not that many nerves in the ear. The cropping can help prevent infections and tearing.

@tdetko Originally it was done for a reason. As they were originally bred to hunt wild bore, the ears were cropped to protect them from the tusks. Now it is done mostly for looks as it is the classic look for a Dane. Danes with natural ears, while legal in the ring, tend to not do as well as those that are cropped.

Great Danes will forever be my #1 favorite dog!

@misecretgardens Cropped ears pose less of a risk of injury when doing work. Sound localization is also improved with cropped ears.

@tdetko It ain¡t just for look, well, now it is but the bread use to hunt wild pigs and the ears were cut so they don't got hurt....i have a great dane and i' agree...they look better all natural.
-
@misecretgardens Actually it prevent ear infections and it also helps enhance the hearing. When the ear leather is real long and heavy it weighs down the ears and covers the ear, makin it harder for the ears to move back and forth and to catch sound waves. Just look at all the wild canines they all have errect ears because they are more efficient. This is why I will alway have my doggies ears done.

People pierce their ears, get tattoos, and other cosmetic things that may cause minor pain. If anyone would pick up a book and read, they would know Danes used to hunt and run through thick brush. Cropped ears prevented prey from grabbing and tearing of the ear. So you people who say"how would you like to crop you ears" think of that. How would you like your giant floppy ear grabbed, yanked, and ripped at? Now it's just cosmetic, but as I said, not a choice any gov't shld be dictating
-
Cropping is no more invasive than getting a dog fixed. And if you ever saw a pup playing same after surgery, you would realize it must not be so painful or the pup would act miserable. duh! And the liberals are all pushing to make it illegal, and for no good reason besides they think their opinion is more important. It's a choice the government shouldn't even be involved in. Look at images throughout history. Many breeds appear more characteristic and regal with the traditional crop done

Well it cant be too good as it is illegal in Australia

Why oh Why do you have their ears cropped? Is there any reason behind it or is it just for looks, I have 2 danes and would never dream of having their ears cropped, floppy ears are part of their charm!

I agree with you completely- they do it just for looks. I have 7 Danes and they are all natural. Things are changing here slowly and someday cropping will be a thing of the past.

Beautiful dogs but how come we only saw the blues and blacks? There were at least 4 other colors represented there.

Cause I like the blues and blacks more than the others.
