Virginity in the Arab World

A short video which will take you on a journey across the violent, inhuman, and unjustified brutality towards Arab women concerning the issue of virginity.

Starring Nancy Naser Al Deen (A Lebanese MEPI TL scholar at the American University in Cairo)
Some clips are taken from the music video "Ma Fina" by Katia Harb and directed by Nadine Labaki, the movie "Caramel" directed by Nadine Labaki, the documentary "أسرار مدفونة" from BBC Arabia, and a documentary from Al Jazeera.
The soundtracks in the video are "La Wayn Rayeh" by Abeer Ne'ame, and "Ma Fina" by Katia Harb.

The assembly, editing, montage, and directing of the video is done by Mohamad Al Mustapha (A Lebanese MEPI TL Scholar at the American University in Cairo).

i think its time for the arab world to understand, that girls' virginity is NOT the most important issue in the world, and really relax and stop worrying about your dignity and honor shit you keep bragging about. it;s time to care about other important things like, getting educated for example!!!!!!!! i mean, we arabs, are so pathetic, that im so embarrassed for being one!

The religion makes the culture. They are one and the same especially when it comes to women. Women are continually degraded, controlled and humiliated by things such as viriginity. proving you are a virgin is about being controlled. "A virgin has no experience and experience makes you stronger"

@lebaneseperfection I'd like you to show me where Islam opposes this behaviour. We have Shariah texts rife with degredation of women...example:

Shafi'i (Part I, p. 307) `Ahkam of the Qur'an' "...thus a female slave must not be veiled. When- ever Muhammad took a woman as a captive, if he imposed the veil on her, Muslims would say he took her as a wife, but if he left her unveiled they would say, `He owned her as a slave'; that is, she became a property of his right hand."

@lebaneseperfection You say this, but it's not that simple. The culture has evolved throughout 1400 years under Islam. It is entirely reasonable to say that it is the Islamic culture that is to blame. Other cultures do not have this garbage. All Islamic cultures do, however. Islam is to blame. Islam fails it's people to overcome this, and many other destructive "cultural" ailments. In fact, Islam's leaning towards subjegation of women, has set this problem into concrete. Islam is to blame.
