It is a transcription of an old Latin-American dance - a pasa-doble. There appears to be no0 original copy of it and no current recording of a band playing it

You were lucky. The one and only time I played the BB flat Bass at the Gala was in 1983 when The Langley Park Colliery Band took in Kelloe. We started by marching through Kelloe at 06.45 then a 30 min concert in the club. Then a march through Quarrington Hill and a 30 min concert in the club. Then a march through Cassop and breakfast in the Village Hall. Then a march through Coxhoe before arriving in Durham around 11 am. Yes you were lucky with such a short march.

Come and see for yourself. This years Durham Miners Gala is on Saturday July 12th starting around 08.30. If you get to Old Elvet for about 09.15 you should bsee around 40 bands including a couple of Scottish Pipe Bands all on the march using regular recognised marches.
