Professors Iain Stewart and Professor Kathy Sykes take a timely look at global warming ahead of the Copenhagen summit, exploring the world's leading climate scientists' vision of the planet's future.
Scientists predict that if global temperatures continue to rise at their current rate, Earth will be one degree warmer within 10 years, two degrees warmer within the next 40 years and three degrees or more warmer before the end of the century. If the Earth's temperature increases to three degrees warmer than the average pre-industrial temperature, the impact on the planet will be catastrophic. Across the Earth, ways of life could be lost forever as climate change accelerates out of control. This isn't inevitable, however: climate change is not yet irreversible.
Ingenious technology and science is currently being devised, advanced and tested around the world which could offer solutions for a sustainable future. The question that remains is, can the world embrace and implement them on a large enough scale within an effective timeline? If widespread damage to human societies and ecosystems is to be prevented, global temperature rise must be slowed and eventually reversed.
Hot Planet offers an accurate visual prediction of the planet's future, based on the findings of over 4,000 climate scientists.

  • tits or GTFO

  • It isn't just increasing temperatures, it is also ocean acidification.

  • @lexsoOr Polar Bears evolved over an enormous period of time. Sudden changes in climate will eliminate their food supply and cause them to die. Adaptation doesn't happen overnight and humans are disrupting the climate in a very unnatural way.

  • 14:00 the polar bear has no chance of adapting to the climate change...guess someone didn't pay attention when Darwins Survival of the Fittest Theory was explained in biology class :P

  • propoganda film, the govts. will take taxpayers money to develop all kinds of essential technologies then sell these required gadgets back to the same taxpayers; and lets bio-engineer martian foods so that we can contaminate the food supply causing lots of new disease that will require lots of new medicines and vaccines=when the govt. pays scientists off to say what they want them to say-when the govt. or UN is involved=do not believe a thing that you hear

  • @xVevanVx you seriously think that half of the oceans are fish farms? Fish farms are a tiny portion of the oceans in regards to area. I bet you think that half of the Earth's land surface is being mined for minerals too... Check out Google Earth! lol

  • Add what ever you want it will do no good unless we have CMA energy and this world has found not one person willing to help. That means YOU and you will suffer under all political stupidity. God said it's better to live among the meek and lowly then to rule among fools. So why do you follow these parasites. Why are you following these selfishly motivated people? You better wake up before there is no research available for this energy C.M.A. energy we need it now.

  • @purchville never heard of fish farming have you ...

  • i live in canada we could use some heat lol

(but seriously pull ur head outta ur ass and put in some effort)
