This is the robot that we entered in the FIRST Robotics Competition. We have an arm (we call it the "tail") used to knock the ball down, and then a manipulator on the front that can pick up the ball and hoist it onto the robot for easy transport. We took this video the night before ship date!
This is our first year to compete, and we're hoping to follow it up with many more!

  • Wow. How does that hook arm in the back have enough torque to get that ball off the overpass? It seems like a ridiculous amount of energy needs to be exerted on that fulcrum.

  • not really.

the motor on the arm is only really used for extending it upwards and moving it back down.

to actually knock the ball down we drive the robot forward and apply force on the ball from the side.

  • A bit slow, your drivers need a bit practice.

    Good Luck

  • Thanks!

Keep in mind, this was 3:00am the night before ship date...so motor skills certainly weren't up to par.

  • I recognize you guys yall were awesome at the lone star regional greeting from 2582 Pantherbots

  • Hey, I recognize that workshop. And that deflated ball. And that dead robot on the other side of the lane divider. I was working on dismantling 2158 '07 for a CIM motor, so I wasn't paying much attention to you guys, but I'm glad to see you got your bot working so well.
