the only important thing is the love for this sport...as long as canada will love its game as it does at the moment it will play great hockey. the same is with the russians. hockey may be not the most important sports in russia, but for those russians who love this game (like me) it is. out of 140 mio people there should be enough. there are many czechs, finns, swedes, americans and russians who share canadien passion for hockey. russia will win and lose, so will TC. that is called competition

i would say to see whos better we have to wait another ten to 20 years. only titles count =). to compare the different periods in hockey history is useless. for now russia and canada have more or less a tie in international titles, so there is no use to discuss whos better. everyone is proud of his own nation of course, russians will always say russia is superior, canadiens will say the same about canada, americans will say usa is nr.1, same as swedes, finns, czechs...

@Asilaydyingfan15 thx a lot! I'm sure you won't forget =). Great audience at the finals on tsn, i read it was sth about 14 mio canadiens watching parts of the game. To be honest, I had not much hope after the second intermission, but I'm glad that I didn't go to bed. In europe the game ended at smth about 4 in the morning.

Hey man im not dissing russia, dont get me wrong. I have a lot of respect for all the players you named there. In all honesty I think Russia being fairly dominant for a while was the best thing that could've happend for Canada because it made us be better to win. And that in turn has made you guys be better to win, the rivalry only makes both countries stronger, and all I'm saying is I still think Canada is #1

Please name a soviet player from the Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, or Estonia that was a star for the Soviet Union...and When the Big Five( Federov, Kozlov,Konstantinov, Fetisov, and Larionov) first moved to the US to play for the Red Wings, They were the progeny of old Soviet Union . so more players, Bure, Kamensky, Mogilny, Kharlamov, Mikhailov, Tretiak, Varlamov, all Russian.

yea russia has 25 gold medals of all time and canada has 24, and russia wasnt even in the IIHF system until 1952, so were the best of all time, not to mention we've won more matches head to head, and were coming back strong nowdays, 2010 olympics were a fluke and wont happen again. and were still number 1 in the rankings, like we should be
