The next in a weekly series of 10 minute topics teaching about various topics within Judaism. This week's topic is: Sadducees.

The Sadducees (also known as the Tzadokites - Tzadokim in Hebrew) were a group of priests who were opposed to the Pharisees. The group was founded in the second century BCE and ceased to exist after the destruction of the Second Beit Hamikdash (Holy Temple) in 70 CE. The Hebrew name Tzadokim indicates that this group were students and followers of the Kohen Gadol Tzadok who anointed Solomon king at the start of the First Beit Hamikdash.

  • man i just love educational videos about religion!!!!

  • @basselyrique Moreover, the evidence for the Sadduceean adoptation of Tefillin is inconclusive.

  • An interesting statement at 10:05 about the Sadducees adopting the "Pharisee use of t'fillin" which means that the whole concept of t'fillin was not an original Jewish practice but followed the Galuth Bavel.

  • Karaite halakah by Rabbi Bernard Revel

" The Karaites; not only are they the followers and spiritual heirs of the Sadducees, but their physical descendants. Doctrines and practices adhered to and observed by a nation do not disappear at the desire of its leaders. Nor were the Sadducees annulled. The descendants of the once dominant party continued to live according to the traditions of their ancestors. "

  • Sounds exactly like modern atheist, materialist.
