In Quebec, where I used to live, it would be pronounced "zhis-laine" but I know a woman from France (living in the US) who pronounces it ghee-laine (hard g sound).
Oh my goodness! Finally found footage of that bl**dy woman I was named after. If she was Belgian why on earth did she anglicise the pronunciation of her name? It sounds so hard & I HATE HATE HATE IT. Since moving I have changed the pronumciation of my name to Gillaine but get folk to call me Ghil.
there's also an episode from the mid-50's with a panelist from the Puerto Rico WML-she's Arlene's equvilant(sp)and joins in the fun after they guess her....

I'm confused. Why did she give it away? Was it going too long?

As far as pronunciation of her name goes, I was named (Ghislaine Alexandra) after her and I pronounce it Ghis, with a soft 'g' followed by 'lane'.
Lovely to see her... does anyone know of any more film of her?

Anyone know how you'd pronounce her first name? I think Kilgallen had it wrong when she said "gill-em".
