I got turned on to these guys by a friend after turning her on to Aspen (formerly Cosmic Vishnu) a group from Portugal who also Kill it without the need for a vocalist. Check out "winds of Revenge " if you want a great example. rock on.

I truly love this guys. They opened the "post-rock world" to me with EITS, and this is one of my favorite songs. They deserve so much more recognition for this piece of art. Cheers!

the reason the drummer gets crap is because the tempo isnt solid. you only notice it if you are a drummer who has spent countless hours with a metronome in your ears. imo it's not a big deal, gives it a touch of rubato heh.

I played this track on my radio show last week. Just re-discovering this band. They have a great sense of texture.

i dont know why the drummer gets so much crap. his playing is tastefull never overt the top and compliments the overall feel of the songs very well. some times less is more.
-
more intense? not really, perhaps this song, but pelican have some pretty heavy, dissonant material

i think the rawness of the drummer just adds to the whole band...i saw them live with isis and they both fucked my head up for a good week..they never get old

I'm not sure. I saw them live and he is a great drummer! I think it may be his recorded drum sound on their albums. It's not always the best (imo :p), but I recently heard one of the tracks on their new album on myspace and his sound is just amazing :)

Man, I don't why so many people knock the drummer to Pelican, I think he does a decent job. There's definately some chemistry there.
