At a meeting of the Committee on International Trade (INTA), Joe Higgins MEP highlights the ongoing strike at Tekel and human rights abuses in Turkey (02-02-10)
Tekel was sold to British American Tobacco, on February 2008,with atender, which lasted only 17 minutes, at a price that is equal to theamount of the profits the enterprise could make only in 4 years. TheBritish American Tobacco did not buy TEKEL to produce cigarettes. Itshut down these factories so as to take over th......e market of TEKEL in acheap way. Thereby, it has become a monopoly.
Thanks for your support for the workers rights in Turkey Joe! Please keep an eye open for their situation and keep supporting their honorable resistance agaisnt neo-liberal privatisations in turkey and elsewhere!
