  • @baroh2413 I don't know, probably thin plastic. Sky riders also sometimes wear helmets with covered vents (like Wiggins was at the World Championships).

  • @mattfaulkner Did you read what kind of material he used? it looked cool in a strange kind of way. (I wouldn't put it on my helmet though :-D)

  • @baroh2413 Just read that it was for a small aerodynamic advantage (along with the skinsuit). Last year a few riders wore covers over the vents on their helmets for Paris Roubaix, which is why I thought it could be for heat retention, but it was definitely for aerodynamics!

  • @mattfaulkner Perfect cyclingweather is relative but not that relative. The reason I asked is because I have never seen anyone put plastic (it looks like cellophane) over the vent holes in their helmet. If you want to keep warm you would wear a headband or a cap, so it must have been for aerodynamic purposes. The reason they started in winterkit is that the previous days it had been rainy and cold. But don't take offense.

  • @baroh2413 Perfect cycling weather is something that each person judges differently. You are used to the weather in Denmark so may think that it was perfect cycling weather because you are accustomed to it, but a skinny Spaniard or Italian will find it cold (hence why they started the race in winter kit). I was simply saying that it was either because he wanted to keep his head warm (from living in Italy) or that it was for aerodynamic purposes.

  • @mattfaulkner It was not a cold day. I'm from Denmark and the weather was perfect for cycling

  • @baroh2413 was*

  • @baroh2413 Either for aerodynamic improvement or because it was a cold day (the Italians were struggling with the lower temperatures a bit and Cav lives and trains in Italy, so it may have been to keep his head warm).
