... where no Star Trek Experience has gone before ...

I just returned from Las Vegas. I was at the Hilton Las Vegas yesterday and was shocked to see that the Star Trek Experience is now closed... FOREVER!!!

WTF?

Okay, I did the Experience already four times (or five, I am not 100% sure). I did it the first time when there was only the Klingon Encounter and then several times more when they expanded the Experience with the Borg Invasion (3D).

What a loss! ... and probably only because some greedy bastards could not agree on how to share the profits.

The Experience wasn't cheap ($40 or so), plus the revenue from the gift shop and the overpriced "Quarks" restaurant that served TGI Friday's kind of food for twice the price and half the quality.

Not being profitable could not have been the reason for shutting it down after over 11 years of operation.

It's a shame and Gene Roddenberry did obviously some poor decisions regarding the management of the franchise that he created, after his death. What a blow into the face of Star Trek fans worldwide. Gene would turn in is grave (bless his soul), if he'd know about this.

Update: I learned through the comments of a viewer of this video, that there will be a new Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas. You can learn more about that at my blog, where I wrote in much greater detail about it. Here is the URL to the post:

  • I know I heard and a month later a friend and I spend a couple days there right beofre it closed. I't BS. I spoke to one of the enployees and he said that after Paramount sold Star Trek to CBS, the compony under them that accualy owned The Experience just out of the blue said to close it. In addition he also said that the compony was such an ass that they told the Hilton that they were not to hold a job fair for all the enployees. I will miss it in all it's glory.

  • Thanks for the info... and as I said, Gene would turn in his grave, if he'd know about this. :(

  • Well thankfully, The Experience is reopening at Neonopolis. For those who dont know, Neonopolis is a complex near Freemont Street in Downtown Las Vegas.

  • Really? Is there an official press release or something? When is it planned to be open again? Will it be the same thing? I wouldn't think so, since the Hilton hotel itself was part of the story and effects in the old rides. If you have more news, please let me know... via comments or via mail (links etc.) Thanks a million! Cheers!

  • Unfortunately Neonopolis lost the rights so we won't be seeing a new ST: The Experience there. Damn.

  • The thing thats relay anoys me is that we hear in the UK did not about it unless we checked the internet. Infact i did not know about after a couple months after it closed

    Thats not fair.

  • @ArcturosMengsk AGREED!!!! :***(

  • @SoCalCoaster the expierence will still be going right ?

i mean i still haven't been to it yet so !

  • ok will las vegas still have it ?

if they do why keep moving it, I mean damn imagine how much revenue is being made here ?!

  • bastards

  • You weren't supposed to have cameras on the backstage tour? hehe

  • i took the behinds the scenes tour back in august, best money i ever spent, really wish they would have allowed cameras though, espeically on the bridge. But they are bringing the Expirence back at the neopolitian

  • In the last weeks they started doing a behind the scenes tour and i was in the very last group to take it i got a certificate and everything. We actually got to go inside the simulator room and stand under one of the shuttlecraft and watch the show it was really cool.

  • I was there this summer for the last day, it was really sad. All the employees that played the characters had all been there since the beginning (except for one) and were basically told to not let the door hit you on the way out.
