Walker Road Party Warehouse Fire Windsor, Ontario (HD)

A massive fire broke out shortly after 1am today at the Party Warehouse located at 1030 Walker Road. Windsor Fire Department Station #2 located on Richmond which is just south of the blaze was first to respond to the location.
The call was put out for more trucks and personnel to assist as flames could be seen shooting out of the roof. Dozens of firefighters attempted to get the stubborn fire under control which was fueled by large amounts of paper products in the building. Heat from the blaze was so intense it melted the plastic casing on one of the trucks gauges and cracked a side window. The large structure also houses Champion Products and The Clean Depot. Walker Rd. is closed between Niagara and Ontario for the time being. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes.

At one point there was an aerial truck from neighbouring Tecumseh being used. The Tecumseh Fire Department had been asked to be on standby should assistance be needed for any other calls in the city. Enwin Utilities shut down power to the large lines that run near the building and cannot restore power till the all clear is given. There are still small pockets of flames erupting sporadically and water pouring out of the building has turned Walker Rd. into a small lake.

Ironically, the fire department had been to this location just two weeks ago to create a special fire plan according to Fire Chief Dave Fields.
The building has been destroyed but it's too early to speculate on any causes although Fire Inspector Lee Tome stated the Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been notified which is standard procedure for a "large loss fire". A backpack with an odor of accelerant was found hidden in the snow behind the building and the fire is being treated as suspicious. The roof collapsed and heavy equipment will be brought in to move some debris so inspectors can enter the building safely and search for a cause.
