It's time to take an up close and personal look at grocery shopping in a small rural town in Japan. I hope you guys enjoy all of the various scenes of the different food and drinks you can get in Japanese grocery stores. The sushi sections and the boxed lunch sections tend to be quite amazing, and I still get very excited over the chocolate aisle with all the various little anime inspired toys. Very cute. Of course, who can forget all of the fish?

I also break down what a weekly trip to the grocery store is like for me and how much food I can get for what average price. So, if you are curiou about having a budget in Japan for living on your own, perhaps this video can be of some help. If you cook nearly every night like I do, groceries are actually quite cheap (at least I think so for where I'm at and what I get).

Also, I mention about the response to the goosebumps cry for help, and when this video was filmed many of you had responsded saying you would be happy to send me goosebumps books. I have since gotten many books in the mail, so I will give the personal shout outs in next week's Halloween episode. Have a great day, thanks for watching, and see you next time!

  • Wow, pretty soon, it'll be two years...

  • TToTT iwate swan!!

  • "Goosebumps" .... :) brings back my childhood.

  • I used to eat those ramen/yakisoba packets when I first came to Japan until I realised how little nutrition they had. Basically a carb/salt concoction you can get from any conbini. There is such a good variety of healthy Japanese foods especially fish and seafood including seaweed. Not the average Westerner's diet, but definately work a look! Japan has a lot super-foods that this doesn't really cover. There is a lot to discover in a Japanese supermarket.

  • RIP!

  • do you speak or know japanese?

  • you can do anything in this world

  • I'm not a huge bread eater, I only eat two or three slices a week. I miss being able to buy bread in packs less than 10 slices. Here, you almost always have to by the whole goddamn loaf (which consists of about 24 slices!!) It takes me more than a month to go through them all. Especially during the warmer months, by the time I've eaten half of the pack, the rest is already moldy and smells funky!

Also, Japanese bread tastes FAR better than anything you can buy in supermarkets in the US!!
