@siddhartha161 You are right...this is completely his own song, definitely inspired by his mentor Paul robeson's Old Man River, he always said that in his concerts how Paul Robeson was a huge influence in his life so whoever says this song is copied is basically ignorant...
@akki4play the assamese lyrics needs a few changes it actually goes like this:
"Bistirno parorey, ahankhya jonore, hahakar sunio nisabdth nirovey,
Burha luit tumi, burha luit bua kiyo.........."
it means : O mighty Brahmaputra (Burha Luit) even after hearing the cries of the uncountable people of so extended banks, why do u still continue to flow!
