Jackie Shipley and Shannon collaborated on the first song celebrating the people's right to stand up to injustice with love, compassion and truth.
The second song was written by Richard after the W.T.O. demonstrations in Seattle 1999.

Performed at Cafe Luna Sol in Los Angeles, California in May 2000:

'I Swear' (Shipley/Smy)
I swear by the lake on the mountain.
I swear by blood that's red.
I swear on the cool clear night air,
And I swear on my child's head.

That I will never rest
Until all oppression is ended.
And I will never rest
Until all oppression is dead.

I swear to the tigers in the forest,
I swear to the whales in the sea,
I swear on the life giving living Earth
With all the passion in me.

That I will never rest
Until all oppression is ended
And I will never rest
Until all oppression is dead.

I swear to the tribes of all nations,
I swear to every race.
I swear on the hope of every human heart
That I have the courage it takes.

And I will never rest
Until all oppression is ended,
And I will never rest
Until all oppression is dead.

I swear to the people with power
That I have power too.
Power to stand and to defend our land
With love with compassion with truth.

And I will never rest
Until all oppression is ended,
And I will never rest
Until all oppression is dead. Shipley/Smy

The W.T.O. Song (Richard)

Hey hey ho ho the WTO has got to go. x4
There ain't no power like the power of people
'Cos the power of the people don't stop.

Seattle 1999 the WTO met to make it easier
To borrow from tomorrow.
So the people faced an army
And the people's voice was strong.
We will not support a system
Making money from what is wrong.

Whose world - our world,
Whose streets - our streets,
Whose life - our life.
Hey hey ho ho the WTO has got to go. (x2)

We faced to face their soldiers
With tear gas in our eyes,
Democracy was dying and
The people realised,
The multinational ruling class - the WTO,
Conspiring against us?
Well now they have to go.

This is what democracy looks like. (x3)

No justice, no peace. (x4) NO justice.

As the world keeps turning
More power to our hands,
We've got to find community,
It's time to make a stand,
The farmers, the unions,
Earth First and First Nation,
Seattle showed the world that
We're a force for celebration.

Hey hey ho ho the WTO has got to go. x4

The power of the people is here to stay.
There ain't no power
Like the power of people
'Cos the power of the people don't stop. (x8)

Note: this clip was digitized from a VHS copy of the original Hi8 PAL tape. As such, it didn't turn out too badly.

The Cafe Luna Sol was a workers' cooperative on W. 6th St dedicated to Justice, Peace, Food, Community and Art.
