  • Forgive my ignorance, but why do you rip the gills out right after you catch it?

    Thankz!

  • @IEsorry -

Long Anwser:The gills are ripped out to preserve the best quality fish as possible. We only spear what we will eat and do everything to maximize quality of the meat, so we rip out the gills to bleed out the fish making the meat whiter and less fishy tasting.

Short Anwser: Better for sashimi :)

  • you could of at least given that friendly seal a bonito! share the love

  • @lightningchaser111

Why? They already associate humans with food causing them to lose their fear and act aggressive towards divers.

  • Don't worry about guys that hate spear fishing, it's their problem.

I know a guy that bags on spear fishing but got so nervous when we took him he wouldn't get out the boat. He's still my mate and it doesn't bother me.

I prefer to kill my fish than drag them out of the water and throw them in a bucket of ice but I like line fishing too.

  • @IEsorry Not to mention it is only humane to dispatch your fish quickly. Gill ripping is the easiest way and doesn't require a knife.

  • ...all the way to Cortez Banks for two 20lb jacks?

    ...miserable!

  • FUKN AWESOMEE!!!

  • Every chance I get, I shoot a seal or at a seal.......they're everywhere........never planned on actually hauling one in but it may provide some kind of deterrence for the next guy out there.......
