Fantastic live version of this song, Ahoy, Rotterdam, 2006. This was part of the All The Roadrunning Tour with Mark Knopfler.

Later on I'll put up another version of this video with much better sound. However, this is already quite listenable...

  • If this doesn't move you I suggest you seek help.I fiirst heard it in '76 and fell in love with her voice. Every time I hear it I choke up. The only voice that comes near is Iris DeMent. Nobody can cover this, nobody!

  • 1973-2011 (and continuing): My crush on Emmylou

  • Emmylou wrote this soon after the drug/alcohol overdose of her singing partner, Gram Parsons in 1973. You're privileged to have heard this - Gram's death hit her hard and she does not sing this song very often. This is the last song he ever wrote and they sang it together : "In my hour of darkness, in my time of need, Oh Lord grant me vision, Oh Lord grant me speed."

  • Her Best.

  • Did you say amazing?

Don't you have another word for it?

How come you didn't think of perfect heaven and perfect hell?

How come you didn't think of perfection?

  • I don't want to hear a love song I got on this airplane just to fly And I know there's life below But all that it can show me Is the prairie and the sky And I don't want to hear a sad story ...

  • Sorry to hear about your loss, ma'am. This song has to be the saddest ever. It always brings tears to my eyes too, and reminds me of loved ones gone before us.

But let's be thankful for angels like Emmylou who bring us joy through their music.

    Oh God, I'm crying again...!
