As far I'm concerned, Dave didn't need Metallica. Otherwise, he wouldn't have had Megadeth (who are every bit as good, if not better, than Metallica).

Metallica's life would make for an amazing book. I bet there's more interesting to read than the autobios of Slash and Motley Crue.
The wannabe Metallica members who were beach bums and Hollywood rockers would make for an intriguing read.
It's fascinating to think that it took 3 months for Cliff Burton to be convinced in joining Metallica. I was thinking it was only a matter of days.
James seems reluctant (guilty?) in acknowledging immediately how Dave's departure came about.
