Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps from Camden County, New Jersey was at the Cannon County High School Thursday.

They were LOUD and exciting.

Imagine that!

They have a competiton at MTSU tonight.

Most groups tour all summer, but this one doesn't. They are all mainly from the East Coast, ages 16 to 21.

"This is a hard-core, live or die marching band," according to Cannon County High School Band Director Stephen Porter.

He pointed out that they had plenty of band toys, too.

These are the upper echelon of the marching bands and were stopping over at the Cannon County High School to get some practice time in before their competition at MTSU tonight.

The marching band coordinated with Cannon County's football coach and Principal Tim Knox, to use the field house bath facilities.

They slept on the bus all night and arrived this morning at about 6:30.

Tonight they will only travel 250 miles, usually they have been traveling 400 miles each night.

They are glad to be in Cannon County.

Each group, for instance, the drums, flag core, etc. has their own director that specifically works with that group. Each director was busy getting everyone in order.

The students were in their shorts and some in bathing suits, water was kept at the ready.

The chow wagon (tractor trailer) had 10 days worth of supplies to feed the whole crew and they were cooking cherry dump cake for lunch which was staffed by volunteers.

When you see the marching bands before the big football games they make it look so easy.

Sidesteps, everyone in a straight line, synchronized.

This goes to show just a few of the long, hard, hot hours that go into each practice session.

It's definitely harder than it looks.
