Bear Bay Forest contains the last Old Forest ecosystem in Pender Harbour, BC. It is scheduled to be logged in spring 2009. We believe it deserves protection not only for it's own sake, but to protect the following:
- the blue-listed Red-Legged frog population that lives inside the forest
- the Northern Coho Salmon run that spawns in Mixal creek - only 200m directly down slope from the proposed logging roads
- the historical spawning grounds of the critically endangered Sakinaw Sockeye Salmon that lies at the mouth of Mixal creek.

This video contains clips of old-growth trees like Coast Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar, a steam donkey engine, the blue-listed Red Legged frog, a baby racoon, an arbutus grove, views from the forest canopy, northern coho Salmon spawning in Mixal creek, a banana slug, a douglas squirrel, a pileated wood pecker, an alligator lizard, a mule deer, a bald eagle and various other forest scenes.
An alliance of citizens has risen up to save the forest.

Hope you do not mind that I have crossed post this on several of my networks. On Care2 I have created a C2NN Story to get people to visit your site and Facebook I have created a cause. I posted as a Bulletin on Myspace. My group Tree Lovers along with others on Care 2 have recently save a Swedish Forest from the same fate. (Verle Old Forest).
