"Malven".
∞∞∞
Aus Rosen, Plox, Zinienflor,
ragen im Garten Malven empor,
duftlos und ohne des Purpurs Glut,
wie ein verweintes, blasses Gesicht
unter dem gold'nen himmlischen Licht.
Und dann verwehen leise, leise im Wind.
zärtliche Blüten Sommers Gesind.

Among the roses, phlox, zinnias
in the garden, mallos tower,
scentless and without a purple glow
like a tear-stained pale face
under the golden, heavenly light.
And then, solfty blowing in the wind
tender blossoms,
summer's servant.

  • @007strauss i am confused...what issue do you have with her pronunciation of zärtliche...the ä is too dark for you? I am just curious. I thought she sounded okay.

  • Love them together!

  • Incredibly lovely. So perfect for Kiri's voice, and so nice to see Solti at the piano.

  • The very last song composed by Richard Strauss is a very rich piece of music, but at same time a difficult beast for the singer. Kiri Te Kanawa and Sir George set an example how it must be sung and played with their excellent interpretation of that world premiere. I think Kiri should practice the correct pronunciation of the German word "zärtliche" to bring it to perfection.

    Thanks for posting that juwel!
