In the original French (but not in the translated English) the historian says that not only were the guns in place but they were also loaded - indicating their readiness to fire.

4:10 : "Anyone who criticized the King MAY end up at the Bastille"; it actually seldom happened.

The mob does not rule wisely or well. This series is overly simplified and does not lay out the issues or events in a coherent fashion. Replacing the king with the likes of Robespierre, Danton, Marat and the accompanying guillotine was a tragedy. Those folk were NOT the Washingtons or Jeffersons of France.

I completely agree. They exchanged one relatively weak monarch for a bunch of power hungry tyrants in the guise of freedom fighters. That's some revolution, huh?

Agree 100%. And I am a "Républicain". As Ben Franklin would have said, France paid too much for its whistle
Actually the Washingtons or Jeffersons of France existed (Lafayette, etc.), but they were soon either killed or forced to emigrate, leaving the power to very young fanatics.
