God, if they put time limits on 50-50, fuck BJJ the sport then. No knee reaping almost did it for me many years ago. It's not the art of BJJ if they stop the artist from using all his tools, its fucking ridiculous. Is this grappling or MMA and its bogus stand ups?
@BRusso93 I train under a master who is the head of the Refereeing committee of BJJ. Believe me, the 50-50 IS a nuisance. It favors stalling, and even Mendes stops at it for long, long stretches of time. There are talks about setting up a max amount of time to stay on the 50-50. The 50-50 is almost like pins: in the past you were not required to keep attacking, you could pass the guard and just pin until the end. That required a rule change. The 50-50 will also require it.
@loudenvier These "tactics" are apart of the ever evolving game of sport jiu jitsu. If someone stalls 100% in 50/50 with absolutely no intention of transitioning or setting up another position, then yes the rules should strike down on that as stalling and I do believe they should be extremely stern. However, as a competition, if you cannot avoid or defeat someone's 50/50 game and they make you play it, you deserve to lose. Make them play your game if you do not wan't to play 50/50. Mind game.
@BRusso93 Most of what looked like leg lock attempts were indeed attempts at transition to 50-50... But there was a leg lock "altercation" near the end, I've corrected myself... By the way, I'm from Tanquinho's team: Soul Fighters... ;-) What I like about him is that in this lower weights generation he is one of the few that don't resort to boring tactics like 50-50... the problem is that these tactics are, indeed, winning fights :-)
@Luiseo1 Your comment is very interesting because there was NOT A SINGLE leglock attempt during this whole fight. You mistook the berimbolo sweep and 50-50 guards for leg-locks. But, yes, the 50-50 guard IS BORING!!!!

@loudenvier What are you talking about? I saw knee bar attempts by both Rafa and Tanq and I also saw foot lock attempts by both.

This may be a dumb question but is there no heel hooks allowed?
