Big surf in Humboldt County, California at Trinidad and Humboldt Bay jetties December 16, 2002. WSW swell peaked at 30+ feet at about the time of this video. Tide was low and because of the swell direction Trinidad Bay was more exposed than normal. But the Humboldt Bay harbor entrance is somewhat protected -- resulting in the waves between the jetties not as impressive as on the outside. One crab boat was lost at Trinidad. It was one of the outside moorings and more exposed as is the one that the guy boards. I don't think anyone was injured, but it still really sucks. This storm caused significant flooding on the Eel River, and got us a very rare TORNADO WARNING in Humboldt! Proof of which you will see if you make it to the end of the video. Thanks to Weather Channel and NOAA Weather Service for fair use.

  • wow that crabber has balls.

  • Yeah, and he made it look easy. Had to be risky though...

  • Yo cuz. Is that where we went years ago and filmed the seal fighting the gulls for the packet of salmon?

  • Hey Cuz. Yep, that's the place. I should put that video up too. What's going on? Later.

  • Thanks for the comment. And, yep, those crabs are definitely worth more than the crabbers get for them.
