I am fundamentally incapable of using emoticons. I tried it once; it was a complete disaster.

I propose that we as a society instead agree on a notation that indicates a lack of seriousness but avoids making you feel like you are at disneyland running from the creepy costumed mouse who is trying to give you a hug. The ~ is one option. It's used for uncertainty in math. It's a little wide/ugly for every day use though. I'm a fan of the double comma,, it's new and (youtube is cutting me off

I had to find this video again because I got a new Blackberry and I don't know if I've done something really freaking weird to it or what, but my friends have been getting repeat texts all day. Like, repeated messages of excitement about Ingmar Bergman's film-making. So I think I have forever turned my friends off of Ingmar Bergman because of this.

i get the same message from others, but i don't think i have ever had it on the outbox. and winky is important in almost every funny text message regardless of sarcasm or not.
