Here is a rare photo of Austrian Pairs greats from very early in skating history. Helene had won the 1913 World Pair title (Stockholm) with another partner, Karl Mejstrik.....as well as the 1914 Silver medal (St Moritz). The first World War ended competition until 1922 (Davos), where this couple took the Gold Medal (Alfred Berger). They returned to take the World Title again in 1924.(Manchester GRB)
Starting in 1925, Pairs skating would come to be dominated by the Austrians (Herma Szabo and Ludwig Wrede) and the French (Pierre Brunet and Andree Joly (Brunet)).
