As an American trying to learn about rugby football, I find both codes to be ineresting and fun to watch, and I see characteristics of my beloved American football in both.
Cheers to both of American football's cousins!!!!

@thecallan008 not every attacking set it like that , it all depends on your field position, if ur deep in your own half then yes , u need the big lads taking it up and a big kick to get the ball deep in the opposition half, on the other hand if u start the set in the opposition half then you can expect to see alot of attacking plays from the backs... in league we dont have mauls rucks lineouts etc, its only attack and defence and it shows as our attacking skills and defence is 10x better.

@bulls1234567890 I disagree with how you say the nrl has the best defence out of both codes. I agree that their upfront tackling is in most cases better, but thats only because league is so predictable. You know for the first 4 runs or so their just going to pass it to some huge guy like sam thaiday. You also know when they are going to kick so you can prepare. In Union you have to read the play, you need to judge whether to stay back and catch the kick or move up in defence etc.

@bulls1234567890 Yes size does matter in rugby. I dont care what if people think otherwise. Skill counts aswell but size does have a factor. Just look at Jonah Lomu..... Marshall only looks good because he is in league which has a small pool of talent. Dan Carter is competing to be the best fly half against Jonny Wilkinson, Matt Giteau, Morne Steyn etc.

@thecallan008 jamie soward.. so he's shit coz he little yea? then u dont have a clue about rugby, u dont have to be 6ft 4 to be a stand off ! look at rob burrow for an example. soward would rip union up guarantee. and for marshall, and for marshal vs carter, no brainer for me . marshal. dan carter is a decent player i wil admit but i think marshal is something special. his step wont last long ? he's been doing it in the NRL for years and the NRL's defence is the best in any code.

@elbriano1000 haha league players dont have a brain.. listen to urself mate. league players have to make far more decisions than union players and in a shorted space of time due to the amout of attacking and defensive sets, union barely play the game of rugby anyway, you only have about 30 minutes of rugby in a whole match.. wonder where the the other 50 minutes have gone ? probably kicking the ball out into touch and wasting time watching scrums collapse 3 times on every attempt, union is shit

@bulls1234567890 Hahahaha Jamie Soward?!?! Isnt he the short little chody guy. Guys like Jaque Fourie and James O Connor would tear him up. As for marshall he mite do orite. His little sidestep things that he does wont last long though. I would be suprised if marshall made the bench for the AllBlacks. Dan Carter is simply a class above.

@thecallan008 hahaha wake up,,jamie soward would rip union up mate.. take a few minutes of your time to check these vids 1.)" benji marshal 15 minutes of mayhem " 2.) NRL big hits 2011 etc..
let the footage do the talking ! league shits all over union.

league repetitive? anybody watch the last 5 minutes of the first half of Scotland v England, Scotlands forwards going sideways across the pitch and back again several times? And what about this stupid standing there with the ball on the ground nobody touching it for 5 minutes, called a ruck if I remember from my playing days, should be a 10 second rule, use it or lose it. As said below, both have their advantages, and should be appreciated for their respective strengths.

"I have said for 20 years if Rugby Union wants to compete with other high entertainment sports all it has to do is make the pitch 10m wider. Also get rid of scrums, they are a blight on the game. Its a complete waste of entertainment time when they reset another ego driven caveman monstrosity. Former Australian RU kicking coach Ben Perkins
@miguel3566 "No gaps here chap". I love it. As a proponent of Union you announce that with such pride. "You're on the grid for the full 80 boy" another classic. But wait! Whats this? Union only averages 28 mins of play per game. OMG! What do you do for the other 52 mins? Read a book? Knit a jumper? Master hyperbole? Dear oh dear! sounds pretty pathetic to me. "Union for 65% of the match, nothing to see here". You revel in tedium, claim skill but show only a dull, poor contest.

@MegaBILLYBALLBAG Far less than 58%. The IRB puts it at between 42 - 48% noted in six nation competitions, In Australia an average of 28 mins has been noted in super 14 competition. That's an awful lot of nothing going on in a Union game.
