Covent Garden christmas lights - Dec 2008. The market is lit up by 46,000 light-emitting diodes (LEDs) Christmas lights designed by United Visual Artists (UVA).
578 tubes are suspended four metres above ground from the roof of the market building. Each 2m-long tube contains a strip of 80 energy-efficient LEDs, each of which can be controlled by a computer. These are programmed to create complex, colorful patterns of light that ripple across the grid of tubes.
