I saw Waylon when he promoted A Man Called Hoss, he had his son Scooter and his wife with him on tour, it was GREAT.

I have no doubt that Waylon felt getting off of drugs was exactly like a bad love affair/relationship/marriage. I was really impressed with the type of man and father he was when he decided the marriage was over with the wife who didn't want his children around. He made his children his priority and didn't want them abused.
I think the lyrics are incredible and very inciteful. Just a double meaning so that more people will relate to it!
