  • What effective lift was this blimp able to get? What gas is used? And how much did this project cost all together?

This is a really neat video. Were you guys having trouble landing the blimp for some reason?

  • @hsCfFD6G

This ship flew a payload weighing about 400#. Helium was used. It was developed in 1997 if I remember correctly at a cost of about 1.5 million. As for landing problems, the landing shown here was with no head wind and the engines at idle speed, still developing forward thrust. In a later version of this ship called ACE, we used a reversible pitch propeller and were able to stop on a dime. You can find a video on the ACE ARMY AIRSHIP here on youtube by doing a search for it.

  • What's the duration on this thing? And how about max altitude?

  • 30 hour mission duration.

    8500' AGL mission altitude.

  • What's with the music???

  • What is that cowering fabric? Nylon?

  • Way to not explain a goddam thing. Men in black music does NOT make up for you being dick.

  • Works great until someone shoots a paintball at it.

  • Great Video but the Nose Lines are too short ! What kind of pay load does this have ? Was that Fred I saw in this Video ?

  • @aflacduky : Yes, you can fly at 90k msl. Hydrogen is okay but requires special handling. The FAA has no authority over 50k but you a re launching through FAA airspace, so yes, the FAA is involved. The size of the ship is driven purely by weight. The volume of lifting gas is at least 400-500% more than it would be at sea level. Plus a bunch of other technical problems.

  • im british and we naver use mar

  • Pretty cool. Though it would have been much cooler if it was a "manned" airship instead of a "unmanned" one...
