A hairy caterpillar of Japanese moth (Apha aequalis, family Eupterotidae) devouring leaves of Weigela hortensis (family Caprifoliaceae). You can also see its droppings. Late-July 2008 in Japan.

タニウツギの葉を食害するオビガの中齢幼虫。下の葉には排泄した糞が四粒。脱皮すると白から褐色の毛になるそうです。

  • lol you sure are not indifferent to those droppings))

this pure white collor looks like cotton wool

  • tehee!

in my opinion, scatology is as important as feeding or mating in animal behaviour, seriously. :D

  • What type of catipillar is that ? are those actual cicadas in the background???? ^__^

  • what type?!

not sure what u are asking....

the species name was written in the vid description.

commonly called as "obi-ga" in japanese.

it was not an albino but still in early instar.

the long white hairs will become brown after moltings.

check out the related vid of mine, "hairy vegetarian". (a brown type)

    am i answering ur question?

yep, the singing cicadas were well-known "higurashi" (Tanna japonensis).

  • it's just that you may get impression from this vid that you took shots only of faeces ignoring the caterpillar.
