The Meander Valley in Tasmania's central north principally produces high-value cropping including vegetables; poppies and seed crops; dairying; and beef and sheep pasture. The single most important factor limiting increased productivity is water and the Meander Dam Project was a State Government initiative developed to alleviate this issue. Macdow was selected as the construction partner for the development as part of the TWS (Tasmanian Water Solutions) Consortium.
The project included the construction of a 47 m high roller compacted concrete (RCC) dam 180 m long across the top and capable of storing 43,000 ML. The dam configuration includes a central 50 m wide spillway to pass most floods whilst 1 in 1,000 year floods are passed by a right abutment secondary spillway.
