i hope that by "it's awful," he doesn't mean the music that that band creates, because that shit's about as distant from 'awful' as you can get, perhaps not in terms of popularity, but at least in terms of sheer talent

@IWAGEDWAR exactly.. and when people listen to that song they thing is so metal and it's a 7 minue long breakdown.. whe really it's simplicity overlapped with complexity at the sme time.. that' the art of it.. when i hear bands who have all filler up until the "almighty breakdown" and thenback to nothingness that you've only heard a million times before, repated but altered to the nt degree so yo can't claimit's the samething.. like come on, that's fucking dumb.

The breakdown is over used, yes. It doesn't mean it's a lack of musicianship or talentless in any way though. Good music isn't only based around how well written a guitar riff is. A band like Meshuggah is very talented and well respected by musicians even outside of metal, and their song "Bleed" is an open chord based around extremely complex time signatures. I know for a fact the average guitarist cannot pick up a guitar and play that song. Rhythms are just as essential to writing good music.
