Send Silence Packing is a traveling program of Active Minds to raise awareness about the incidence and impact of college student suicide. Active Minds collected 1,100 backpacks and personal stories to put a 'face' to the 1,100 college students who die by suicide each year. The inaugural display of Send Silence Packing was held on the National Mall in Washington, DC in April 2008. In November 2008, Send Silence Packing traveled to the University of Pennsylvania in conjunction with the Active Minds National Mental Health on Campus conference. The band, Liquor Boxx, joined Active Minds to help us literally send silence packing and promote changing the conversation around mental health on college campuses across the country. In October 2009, Send Silence Packing made its way to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA where we paired with the Virginia Tech chapter of Active Minds. Recently, in November 2009, Send Silence Packing was displayed at our 6th National Mental Health On Campus Conference at George Washington University Law School.
