Dishonest Apologetics?

Quite right. Apologists and evangelists -- especially William Lane Craig, in my humble opinion -- are glorified snake oil salespeople who pretend (or, at best, have deluded themselves into believing) that belief in their god has a basis in reason, when, in fact, they will concede if pressed that none of these allegedly reason-based arguments are what convert people at all, but rather it's all about perceived experiences and "revelation" and a desire to believe. In short, it's one big hoax.

I want to know why FAITH is so fucking important.
Why would a god who is THAT powerful stay hidden and demand belief without proof as the be-all-end-all of Doing It Right™? Especially when that's ALSO the same trick a con man would use to cheat you out of your money?
They never quite seem able to explain that part.

Why can't an apologist's message be a way that God is "revealed" to you? The decision to accept or reject God is a personal choice and in many cases it is volitional and not having to do with evidence, of course this is not necessarily so. But, my answer to your question is this; Regardless of the logical, rational, and testimonial evidence you're given, the decision to do something with all of these things is ultimately up to you. They can't force you to accept it

When deconverting from Christianity then it became increasingly more obvious how dishonest theology & apologetics truly are. I was deluded yet sincere and can promise you Christians are deceived. They don't realize how dishonest apologetics truly are until they deconvert. John Locke had a good quote about how every sect loves to use reason until it's no longer helpful then they just say take it by faith. This raises the question of why even bother to use the arguments in the first place.

Thanks for posting that video. Having been a street preacher that used apologetics in a very similar to the preacher the person posting this video has mentioned then I can say he's RIGHT ON 100%. I'm no longer a Christian and have read up on apologetics for atleast 17 years of my life. Religious Apologetics is a giant, elaborate, deceptive and delusional game. The arguments are nothing but a dishonest attempt or means to an end and that is to convert others or keep sheep in church.

I'm a Christian. I really liked your video. It was just your arguments and honest questions. I appreciate that. I'm what is known as a Calvinist, and I found your argument at the end very compelling. As Calvinists, we don't agree that man opens his heart. We believe that God does that through the proclamation of the Gospel. We also don't agree with Lane Craig. AOMin(.)org has some good material dealing with Craig's inconsistency. I'm posting a video resp, too.
Also, I like Crash Love, too.

Loving the background.
I think your friend will say that *truly* knowing God differs from knowing God. The arguments are there to give a logically consistent basis for God's existence (with his properties) while while God decides to smite you, you get fully revelation, think of it as seeing the Platonic form. But since we don't know the necessary or sufficient conditions for knowing God... all this seems futile.
Sorry for blurbing out crap. I'm bored.

I do not see any dishonesty at all. Given that there are persuasive and I feel quite powerful arguments for the existence of God is that really enough? Understand that faith is strong trust. Do you trust yourself strongly? Do you understand that Christianity is more about a relationship with God then religion. Relationship over anything. It is honest to say that God has to enter in and be active in your life. Can you get out of your comfort zone and change your view if proven incorrect?
