  • @educationow umm umm if you were forced to go to a terrible public school ..how would you feel

  • @TheJasonDR

um.. I graduates from a Chicago Public School and a Charter High School

    umm

    umm

  • @educationow um...have you ever been inside an inner city school ?

  • Sometimes we find comfort in believing we have the answer.

Charter schools are very appealing, but they are not the answer.

Look at the data or lack thereof.

  • r u guys grown ups cause o have no clue wat u guys just said. and I love my school!!! go hva!!!

  • Chrisrokk239: What evidence do you have? In systems that are not unionized (e.g., private schools), teachers can earn a fine wage, and they often have fewer students in their classes than public schools. Also, keep in mind that private schools often operate on a smaller budget per capita than public schools.

I guess we both agree that unions need tweaking...I'm just for a pretty substantial tweak.

  • @prestonvisser If you took away the unions, teachers would have 50 students in each class and earn $10 an hour. What kind of teacher does that attract? What kind of education would that provide? Unions need to be tweaked to serve the "good teachers" and allow the bad teachers to be fired easier.

  • Howard Dean said that without the union, teachers would be poor professionals. The implication is that with the union they are better professionals. Then WHY have student scores remained flat? WHY have American children been far outpaced by other countries that spend far less money than we do?

I don't see evidence that the Unions are helping.
