Nick Ashford has passed away at age 70. Ashford paired professionally with his wife, Valerie, to form Ashford Simpson, a songwriting and performing Motown duo. Ashford co-wrote many Motown hit singles with his wife, including "Ainapos;t No Mountain High Enough," "Ainapos;t Nothing Like the Real Thing," and "Youapos;re All I Need To Get By." Over four decades, the duo produced and wrote songs for Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson the Miracles, and Gladys Knight the Pips, among others. More recently, they were given writing credit on Amy Winehouseapos;s album Back to Black for the single "Tears Dry on Their Own." For all the songwriting credits, Ashford and Simpson will probably be best remembered for their own 1984 hit ?Solid.?

  • R.I.P. Nick

  • What an awesome man he was.

  • I actually cried when I heard; I had the utmost for Mr, Ashford and his wife. I thank him for his contributions to the arts and for the dignity he always carried himself with. Another touchstone of my youth is gone. God Bless him, Valarie, & and their children.

  • RIP Nicolas Ashford. I really enjoyed their songs.

  • Pray that Valerie is able to enjoy her birthday today 8/26/11, we all know this will not be easy for her after celebrating so many years with her husband but she has God who will be her comfort and strength.

  • Always loved Motown musica and artist.

  • this couple was one of commitment dedication and class the music they made or co wrote had class.this was real music unlike today everything about woman, sex, money etc.things that pollute our childrens mind.so i thank god for this couple who did not waver from what they beleived but stayed true to the end.i beleive that god has his hand on this relationship and his wife being the strong woman that she has been will be blessed and i pray that god gives her peace in the midst of her storm!

  • Your presence will be greatly missed but your songs will live on forever. Thank you for being Solid and for leaving a fine legacy of grace, humility and music for us to remember you by.

  • R.I.P. BRO AND HUGS TO VALERIE. SO DEEPLY SADDENED BY YOUR LOSS YET THE LEGACY YOU BOTH GAVE IS AMAZING
