Did all of the hr-21s have the blade clutch?

@djdevil360 hi i believe they did. it was only until recently when honda (or now most likely a company contracted by honda) started manufacturing cheaper units that didnt some of nice options like the eariler ones.

You have one of the best lawn mower engines Honda ever made. Those old flat head engines are SO much better than the OHC junk they use today.

I'm still using a Honda identical to this. Engine number H-21, model SXM which was the self propelled model. My parents bought it when Honda first introduced lawn mowers at least 30 years ago. The blade clutch has froze up, engaged, no big deal. I've had to patch the bag several times. The tires are falling apart and are glued on. Parts are definately hard to find., but the engine just runs fine.

Thank you i did not know that. It is so good to see a hr21 in such good condition, but i must ask does the drive come from another shaft or is it just a pully on the bottom?

This being an old HR21, this was no doubt the first Honda lawnmower to be sold in the USA, starting in 1979.
