  • Look up the other video with Ross playing recently-spot on. Does he play R&B as good as Randy? No. But he does his unique style the best. He's the bass sound of Journey. It's not a talent contest. You'll really enjoy music more when you stop comparing. Obvious cases: Steve's a better singer than Tiny Tim, but at a higher level, it's more about individual style. Like when folks argue if Beck is better than Clapton. They're both 'better', at what THEY DO, at that level. That is what I mean.

  • @markdown01 You cant be serious. While this is one of the best performances Ross has ever had for this song, there are more than just a few notes missing on this performance of after the fall. Ross has always struggled with playing this song and there are performances where it could be argued that Ross resented playing the song in such a way that emluated Jackson's playing. When it comes to an R&B or funk groove, Jackson is head and shoulders above Ross

  • @neechee5150 No. Ross, as you can hear, had no problem playing it live. Perfect time & groove. In the MTV video, you see Ross knows how to play slap style fine. But that's not his preference. Likely why they got Randy for it, They wanted an R&B bassist's vibe when jamming & recording what John & Steve wrote. Their next album (ROR) noticably missed Ross's signature Journey sound. Randy just didnt' have it. I mean, he played great. But the bass didn't sound like Journey. Each have their strengths.

  • @neechee5150 you know what, I slowly fell in love with Raised on Radio, I actually think its great even though Perry made it sound like one of his solo albums

  • @Metalstryke Cont The basic song was written by Cain and Perry, and that is documented as a legal fact in the album credits and publishing rights. Jackson did just what Neal did on this song, he came up with a part that was his creation based upon the song, melody and chord progression found in the basic song arrangment that was presented to him by Cain and Perry. Neal does not have song writing credits for this song either, but he definatly composed/created his own guitar parts.

  • @Metalstryke Point to me when I ever claimed that Jackson played a part in the writing of this song. To depart briefly from the key issue here, wikipedia is a work in progress and not a top rung source of accurate information. However, nothing changes the fact that Randy Jackson as all first call studio musicans do, put his style and influence into the arrangments and final produced versions of the songs they are paid to play on.

  • @neechee5150 wikipedia it man, he played bass on the song doesnt mean he wrote it, he has no writing credit man

  • @Metalstryke When you cant argue the facts, you resort to the ad homenim attacks and labels. As they say--google it!!! The song writing credits for After the Fall are in this order: Cain, Johnathan; Perry, Steve. Ross did NOT write after the fall, and he is not credited for doing so. Ross is not an R&B funk style bass player which the bass groove is based upon. The groove, sound, and feel are all signature Randy Jackson.

  • @neechee5150 your a dumbass, Ross wrote the song why would he have problems playing it, Randy played it on the record but Ross wrote it

  • This is the closest that Ross has ever come to playing Randy Jackson's bass part on this song. I have often wondered if Ross was put off by the band brining in a session player for this song during the Frontiers sessions becuase he often played this song very slopily in many life shows
