ZHANG:
Imagine boarding a plane without security checks, turbulence or even ticketing. And, there's more than just fish or chicken for dinner. An entrepreneur in Taipei has been providing this sort of service to people who love to fly since last November.

STORY:
Packing in the passengers, the restaurant looks and almost functions like an airliner but sells a full menu's worth of Western food.

Diners at A380 In-flight Kitchen sit in soft speckled blue seats graced with white napkins under oval-shaped windows. Locked white baggage compartments hang overhead.

Waitresses dressed as flight attendants take meal orders for filet mignon or waffles as well as the customary fish and chicken stand-bys.

Customers say they love the in-flight experience.

[Wen Jou, Customer]:
"This restaurant looks like a real airplane. It's fun and amusing."

[Wu Shu-hua, Customer]:
"We come here often, this is quite special. My daughter likes going on planes, but we don't have that many opportunities to, so coming here gives her that experience."

While airline food doesn't usually taste good, this restaurant has the food problem fixed on the ground

[Emily Lu, Operations Manager]:
"Initially we saw A380, the luxurious airbus, and wished to combine the food on the ground and the flight experience. We had the concept of dining in a passenger compartment, then came up with the menu. After the interior renovation, we extended the idea to in-flight services."

The diner decor cost about $200 thousand.

  • Are you fucking kidding me? Oh sorry, was that my outside voice? Too much pinot Noir.

  • I think she said the 'dining interior', not the 'dining service'. Come on, you could staya week at a 5 star hotel anywhere in the world for that price.

  • im about to burst into tears! after all the BS having to deal with on regular flights, horrible food, cramped space.....and now this????!!! WTF people? Where have these awesome people been hiding all this time???

  • I got a bubble foot bath, full body massage, enjoyed steam room & body waxing on a First Class JAL (Japan Airlines) was 14 hour flight to Tokyo from San Diego.

Got upgraded from $1900.00 coach seats to upper-deck first class which cost $6,280, so I saved $4,380.00 and still got treated like royalty for FREE!

Surfing in Japan wasn't too shabby either, of course with all the fallout from the Nuclear disaster in Japan now, I won't be returning to Japan ever again unless I want to die of cancer! :(

  • Can anybody explain what cost 200 thousand???

  • For that much fucking money you can fly to another nation with your family, stay there for 2-3 days, and come back... and still have some fucking money left... plus, it'd be real fucking experience of the plane...

  • what cost about 200k dollars?

  • lol. i'm chinese but i always say...

    thank god for taiwan.
