Here's some rough Wu-Tang footage from the NYC gig, plus an interesting point from Brother Ali on the line-up arrangements....

It's a tough call: while RTB and Paid Dues unified on tour represent an embarrassment of riches, at times, simultaneous performances on both stages could potentially preclude the audience for one band from discovering another artist.

Or as Ali put it, "To say that Wu-Tang and The Roots is another thing and that Atmosphere and Murs and Brother Ali is a different thing and so to keep them so separated like that, I think that's what we're doing wrong. We as hip-hop people, we're allowing our music to be separated and categorized from each other."

Having seen Ali perform at Bonnaroo and take over a crowd alongside Slug, reminds me that his point about a larger stage being shared could well serve one of the key interests of any festival, namely, turning audiences on to different artists. Of course we love Rock The Bells but Ali has, as usual, a very fine point to make.

Sorry for the jagged Wu-Tang footage, we had to smuggle in a cam that only shot short clips...
Choppy performance video, we were far away and using a cam that only shot 2-minute-at-a-time clips.

  • why don't u get out of your momma's basement and come to toronto? toronto's one of the hottest spot for hip hop shows and music but u wouldn't understand that so ya...

  • lol where all my niggaz at?....nah its cool long as theres a crowd fuck whose live it dont matter

  • i see white people..

  • gotta remember that although wu was there 90% of the crowd was there to see Rage close the show

  • I love how the crowd goes nuts once they start playing "One Blood Under The W".

  • That's pretty messed up, I didnt know RTB separated acts like that.

  • Wouldn't expect me to understand what exactly?

  • The wu tang also has a huge white fan base and are more relevant to white middle class kids. They are particularly popular amongst skaters here, which is also a largely white group. I'm pretty sure my statement was reasonable and shows nothing about my general, apparently distasteful, attitude. You are just for some reason touchy. I did not go to Coachella so I can only speak for nyc rtb, it was all white. I saw maybe 5 black people who weren't on stage, but I wasn't looking out for it.
