@benfrombackwhen That chirp is an effect called arpeggio which is a sort of cheat to make a single tone sound like a full chord. It's a very characteristic sound of chiptunes and early computer music.

This game's soundtrack has the same ephemeral/other worldly feel as My Bloody Valentine's Loveless album. Sheer delight and pulls you in completely.
