6201 (46201) Princess Elizabeth on the Doric Olympian (Crewe - Stafford - Lichfield - Rugby - Watford Jtn - Willesden Jtn - Kensington Olympia and return from London Euston - Willesden Jtn and then as per the outward run) on Saturday 6th March 2010. This isn't much of a video just a record of our first run (at last) behind Lizzie. We were in the final "posh nosh" coach about a dozen coaches back from the business end of the train (both ways) and with no opening vestibule windows. So the on board footage is pathetic and there was the usual frenzy around the loco at all the stops. However, it was a great run by Lizzie and proved it is possible to run steam up the West Coast Mainline to London. Thanks to all concerned - 6201 Locomotive Society, West Coast and Vintage Trains.
Addendum - for Atherton read Atherstone. Sorry - Chris

  • Nice record of the day Chris, I'm sure the storming run behind Lizzie compensated for not being able to get your head out of the window

  • Thanks Austin. I'm still marvelling that we can still travel from Crewe to London and back 50 years after "the modernisation plan" heralded the end of steam. A great day out and a fine performance from Lizzie and her crew. Chris

  • Well done Chris, an excellent video combining work and pleasure, I'm surprised at the amount of steam leakage off Lizzie, as she was always steam tight, but a magnificent machine as always...5* Bob

  • Thanks Bob. She's a great machine and I guess is allowed a few whisps now and then she is 77 after all. Chris

  • well done, im so sorry we didnt meet up. i was so desperate to grab a door so didnt film lizzie backin on at crewe. i was absolutely frozen waitin for lizzie to go on heritage

  • Thanks Lou - hope you survived the day ok. I looked for you but was unlucky. It seemed to take forever for her to get the road to the Heritage Centre. I was so worried for Muriel that I'd decided to give up when she got the signal (a white "XC" - wonder what that means in English?). Only just had time to turn round and get the camera going. Chris

  • Thanks Steve - at least it was a successful trip behind Lizzie. See much more from the linesie though. Chris

  • Thanks Jim - It was a nice day so we took a wander down to Earls Court where I often used to pass by (from Harrow to Tunbridge Wells) - many memories. The staff were very nice but the food was surprisingly poor. We've also taken a trip to Par and several others so ,although it must be difficult, we know the food can be good. Chris

  • Thanks C(&A) - I tried quite a few shots like this but they were even worse. Luckily there are already some cracking on board shots on YouTube. Chris

  • Thanks Geoff - bit disappointing not being able to get some better in action shots. Chris
