Fix the disconnect. That's what organizers of the Celebration of the Young want to do.

The four-day celebration began Friday and continues through today -- with a concert at Kit Carson Park beginning at 1 p.m.

This is a response to recent teen sucides and issues and organizer Lyla Johnston said she hope this is the first of what may become an annual event.

The University of the Yound began Sunday morning and was a way for young people to learn a thing or two from seasoned veterans of life -- even to learn basic survival skills like friction firemaking, deer-hide tanning, and even storytelling.

Johnston's mother, Pat McCabe said she never could understand why kids say there's nothing for them to do in Taos.

Other activities that were part of the Celebration of the Young included the Loving Hands Mural Project, concert and essay contest and a dance party with DJ Chrystaline.
